Problem with 6 speed(HELP!!!)
Problem with 6 speed(HELP!!!)
Driving around today my truck started acting weird shift from 2- 3 -4th. Almost like it was jumping out of gear. Then it would be hard to shift to the next gear. After a minute or so it seemed fine. I did have to top off the clutch master a few weeks ago, but it has been fine since.Anyone got any input on maybe what this could be. We are short on disel techs around except the dealer, and I really don't want to go there.
Truck is in my sig. Thanks

Any of you guys ever changed the oil in your 6 speeds?
Mother Dodge says it's a "lifetime" oil but it isn't. I dumped mine when it started shifting like a bag of rocks and went to Redline MTL. Made a huge difference!!
Now, about every 6 months, it starts acting up again, so I just change out the oil and she is good to go.
Oil is cheap, NV5600's are not!

I've used MTL with good results, and I'm now running RP sychromax.
However, the new Torco Synthetic Racing Tranny fluid (SRT) is getting lots of rave reviews on other sites.
I'm using the Torco next tranny fluid change.
Every time my 5600 has become a little tougher to shift, a change to a premium tranny fluid makes a big difference.
Change it every 25K or so and you should be fine.

You might be having clutch master cylinder leak problems. DC sells a kit (master/slave and lineset) which takes about 1 hour to install. Take a look at the rubber boot where the clutch rod goes thru firewall. If you notice any residual fluid on the boot, replace the set. I'll almost bet that you will find this is the culprit. I did and the replacement has worked like a champ for the last 50-60K miles.
Good luck,
Gary
PS: Don't fall for replacing just the master cylinder. It is a ROYAL PITA to get the thing bled out. DC's kit requires no bleeding and is foolproof install....
