Are power steering pump issues covered under a Dodge powertrain Warranty?
Are power steering pump issues covered under a Dodge powertrain Warranty?
Hi,
I have a 2002 Dodge RAM 2500 CTD that seems to have a power steering pump that has failed. It happened after cold weather when the temp. got down to about 10F.
The power Steering/Brake Fluid spewed out the top of the resivor onto the ground. Problem now is that I can't even see the fluid moving around inside the resivor anymore when you take the cap off so it seems as though it's not even turning anymore.
Does anybody know if the power steering system is covered under the normal 7year/70,000 mile Dodge powertrain warranty that they gave with these trucks?
Thanks,
Mike

Common problem in the cold weather, so a search you'll have lots of reading, Likely not a pump problem, flush fluid out, put in a synthetic PS fluid, and in all likely hood your problem will go away

Hmm, I thought the 2002 trucks had a 3yr/36k warranty? Or did you buy yours late in the season, when they extended the warranty? I seem to recall being ****** off about that, that I bought my truck just before they expanded the warranty.
My 2002, purchased in May 2002, only had the 3/36 I thought, but I did just get a free PS pump last month, under the extended warranty. Well, not free, $100 deductible.
Man did that warranty come in handy! LP, IP and PS pump just in the past year.....

Hi,
Actually, I think you may be right that it is only covered under 3yr/36,000 wrnty. I was looking at the book and that's what it is showing.
I bought the truck in May 2002 also. I already had this problem fixed at about 20,000 miles at the original dealership, and they had assured me it was fixed. The truck only has 35,000 on it currently. For some reason I was thinking that at the time they told me that it had a 7yr/70,000 mile powertrain wrnty. I guess I need to call the original dealership to find out for sure.
I guess my question is if the power steering pump or a power steering pump related problem would be covered under their "powertrain wrnty" or I wonder if the problem was already addressed at 20k and it is happening again if chrysler would cover it.
Thanks for the info.,
Mike

Hi,
Thanks for link & information. Do you think that even though there is no sign of the power steering pump running such as no noise or not being able to see the fluid moving in the resivor that the pump may actually still be ok, and it just needs flushing?
Thanks,
Mike
Hi,
I just wanted to check with you about a question I had on this problem. This truck that is having the power steering problem had this exact issue once before at 20,000 miles. The truck only has about 35,000 on it right now and it's a 2002. It maily only gets used for trips or weekend travel.
I am wondering if this issue was already addressed at 20,000 and the Dodge dealership knew that this was a problem and bled & re-filled the power steering with synthetic fluid & fixed it if this might be covered as an issue that would be covered by Dodge warranty. Thanks for your help or suggestions.
