Posi Punkin'???

Will a '99 punkin and gears from a 2500 2wd direct fit into my 2001 , 3500 housing? Seller says it's an 80...I know I have an 80. When did 80's come out in 2500 2wd? I know the 6 spd 2000 2500 had Dana 80.

Rattle, I'm almost positive it will work. My 99 has an 80. I think probably everything but the axles shafts will work.

I'd want to use my axles. etc. (just replace the carrier with whichever ring gear). I have a source for a carrier w/ring gear only.

Might be handy to put the pinion in also...

Make sure it came out of a five speed truck, my 02 2500 auto had a 70 rear.

My 01 auto has the 70. Anybody know what the spline count is, or do I have to tear it apart to find out. I will be ordering an air locker here shortly, and need to know the spline count.

I'd prolly keep my pinion and swap my ring gear to the carrier.

So...as long as it's an 80 will it fit...or are there variations (axles, etc.)?

You cannot do that, the ring gear and the pinion are a set that must be kept together.

I think that's what I said HID. Swap my ringer to the posi carrier and reuse my pinion. This way the wear pattern between ring and pinion remains matched.

Am I missing something?

Far as I know, a Dana 80 ring and pinion with the carrier should go in another Dana 80 case.

35 spline

If you tow be warned, more so with detroits that lockers if engaged will grenade without warning while backing up GN trailers in tight spots.

Their are different carriers for a 4.10 and a 3.55 gear set though so depending on the gears you have that is the only restriction. as to axle shafts dodge only used the 35 spline 1.5" diameter shaft as did ford in any LSD carrier: on open carriers in larger 1 1/2 ton applications thier was a 37 spline version out thier but to my knowledge LSD's were not produced nor lockers.

Kewl. The carrier in question has 3.55's like mine. Out of late 90's manual trans 2500 to my '01.5, 6 shooter 3500 4x4.

So this should work with no headaches, right?

Yep, just be sure that your pattern is good.
