Please help!!

Bought a 98.5 4x4 5 speed cummins about two weeks ago thought it had a bad crank sensor come to find out after much head ache someone has put a 01 motor in this truck read some other older formes on this subject and understand what should have been done to make it right but what is my best move now??? It's all in motor runs if crank sensor is not plugged in and of course the crank knocks the tip of the sensor when it's mounted I can't get the alternator to charge and I have zero gadges has anyone come up with a easier fix for this issue? Can I just get an 01 wire harness and ECM and swap them is the some way to mount crank sensor at the front of the motor with an exciter ring some please any help is greatly appreciated

I dont have the answer for you but I know if you research this enough you'll find what you need. I believe that when you swap engines of those years you have to also swap PCM. These engines are completely computer controlled which makes these swaps somewhat complicated if you dont have the right information.

Chad:

You are going to need a wiring harness for the engine NOW IN THE TRUCK.
Also,....as DTR Member Katoom said, you are also going to need a PCM/ECM
for that engine as it sounds as though the one that is now in it is NOT
compatible with what is there.
