P1688 error HELP please
I was driving my truck the other day after lunch i pulled out of a parking lot and got on it and at about 2000 RPMs my truck shut off and left me rolling down the road with no power... got it towed home and just hooked up a OBDII scanner and came up with Chrysler code P1688, Internal fuel inj. pump controler failure.... Is this a common problem? And anyone know of a place where i should start looking for the pump contrl.. Anyone have this happen to them b4? Thanks for anyone that can help with this problem... Joey
That's all relative. What do you call expensive? do you gripe when you fill up with diesel (approx 80 bucks?) if so, then yes, this will be very expensive.
The general cost of a vp is 1100 bucks. (give or take a few $$) You will need a new lp also. and a fp guage while your at it (if you dont already have one)
if you go to the dealership they will ask you about 2-3 grand to fix it. you can do it yourself in about 3-4 hours and only about 13 hundred bucks.

Wll i better start making some phone calls around town to see if i can get a refurb one... its the entier VP44??? Ill have to call cummins in my area and talk to some of my friends out there... thanks guys for the help
Be sure to call some of the DTR vendors listed above, under "Links" , for prices. They're not cheap, probably around $1100 at best.
Be sure you're fuel pump is working and has good pressure and flow. If it doesn't, you'll just have to replace the VP44 again.
