P0216
You can normally borrow/rent a scanner from a reputable autoparts store. If you want to buy one, Actron scanners, you can pick them up at Pep Boys or any chain autoparts store, although I'd be saving my dollars for a new IP, if I was you!

I'm not sure which years it works on, but I can turn the key on three times and get codes on my odometer readout.
You can't get all the codes with the key cycle thing. Sometimes you just get a code that says there was a companion coded stored in the other computer. You have to use a scanner to pull that companion code to see what it actually is.
If I was going to buy a scanner, I think I'd look at a Smarty.

what do you have to do cycle the key three times and it will spill out the codes on the odometer?

I was new to here when I got the dead pedal, I was running back and forth from my driveway to the computer. I came back in the last time and wrote something like, "What does P0216 mean?"
Thanks to DC/Cummins warranty, I was all fixed up in about two weeks!Without the warranty, it's hard to say how long it would have been sitting in my driveway.............

As spelled out above...it reads most codes... but a P1693, I think it is, is a companion code. Means you have to scan further for specifics. When I lost my VP-44, this code was all I got. Went to Autozone for free scan...got the dreaded "P0216".
Good Luck!
