P-1740 code

My Superchips book says it means TCC or O/D Solenoid Perf. Tranny is stock and I am on the lowest setting on the programmer. Any ideas as to what it is trying to tell me?

Perhaps the code is implying that the solenoid is failing to engage or failing to engage quick enough for the PCM's expectations?......One or both could be on there way out.....they can get plugged easily with lock-up clutch dust (I speak from experience! LOL). They are not too difficult to change if you find that the solenoids are the problem......does OD and lock up function normally?

Overdrive works fine and I have no idea what "lock -up" means....... I know nothing about trans. Are the solenoids inside the pan? If so I will buy new ones and have my trans serviced and bands adjusted. I have never had them adjusted yet at 125k

There are 2 solenoids mounted on the valve body....one controls the OD shift and the other controls the lock up clutch function inside the torque converter. The lock up clutch simply locks the converter solid and eliminates converter slippage when you at cuising speed in OD.....in a stock tranny it almost feels like you have a 5th gear when the converter locks up after OD has engaged. If OD appears to function properly, it could be the lock up solenoid. It sounds like you are due for a tranny service anyway, so I would have the tranny tech put the scanner on it and go for a drive and see if he thinks the lock up is fine.....it's the perfect time to have the solenoids inspected when the pan comes off for the service.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll have to get it into the shop.
