I have been reading these forums 12v and 24v for a couple of weeks I am looking to buy dodge CTD have desided to buy a 1998 12v extcab lb or 2002 24v extcab lb which is the best CTD and what is a fair price for each if they are in good condition if this is not the right place to post this sorry any info is appreciated

 

Of course you know this is a matter of opion, right? I would go with the 24 v if all things are about the same in each truck.... but you did not say if they were one tons or dual rear wheels ect ..
the 12vers have less jeberish to go wrong, but once you get use to 24ers there is only 4 sesors that somtimes will flip a code .
the ist two years of 24ers are the worse ..the crank counter is amid ships on the crank and prone to harmonic vibrations which blow the little plastic oil cooling jets out thir home (bad thing) I.m.o.I would go with one with a warentee on the eng cause they are very exp. to fix even if you do it you self. been ther done that thats why i am telling you this.

 

Ya I know its a matter of opinion. Just lookin fo input I looked at a 2002 Quad cab HO 6 speed today with 65000 miles They are asking $28000.00 is that a good price and what should i look for The block has what looks like a 55 cast in to it is this good it runs and drives good started right up and it was cold today.

 

sounds ok to me..just never pay more then the loan value and your safe

That seems high to actually pay. It does depend on geography, options, etc. I've been seeing 2000 and newer HOs with high 30k miles to low 40k miles SLT (not Laramie) QD 4x4 long box in the mid $20k range.

Forget Kelley, but look at NADA on the internet with the options, etc. to get a fair price.

 

I agree on the price. Although I have different options, I paid under 25K new.

Sounds like you guys are right again all the books say 26k for this area! Gues they will have to come down or Ill keep looking. still would like to know seems to me that there are a lot of problems with Fuel pump and lift pump on the 24V. Other than the dpd on the 12V which Im pretty shure I can fix myself dont hear of much problems with them so would it be good to stick with them for reliability just honist questions seeing as how the only DCTD I have been around is a first gen drove it once and was hooked.

Personally, I wouldn't base my decision on 12 vs. 24. I'd get the freshest truck you can truly afford, get a good deal and go for it.

24's are gonna have ~ 50 more ponies and 50k less miles.

I bought mine out of state (2001, SLT Laramie, 4x4, dually, 6 shooter HO, QC) for $25K. They seem to be becoming more available (cheaper) as we speak. They however are rare in CA.

 

like i said never pay more then loan value..the rest is all retail
