Oil Leak & Warranty Questions.
I was able to change my oil this past weekend on my 2001 ram. I have owned it since December and have taken it in to have the oil changed every time due to my hectic work schedule.
Well I finally had a chance to put a wrench on it and while I was under it I noticed that it has an oil leak. It is coming from the area near the power steering pump, but the pump is still full. It is a mess under there, but none if it seems to be hitting the ground. That is why I haven’t noticed it before. It seems to be blowing back along the block from the front of the engine on the drivers side.
The truck is absolutely stock, and now has a total of 76,018 miles on it. Any ideas where to start looking? I am hesitant to clean it all off in case its under warranty. I bought the truck used with ~ 50k on the clock. Any idea where to start looking? All of the fluids seem to be full. Is this something that may be covered under warranty?
If I do bring it in to have it checked out, what else should I have them do while its there? Other than check out the lift pump.
Thanks in advance,
-Dave

Check the breather bottle first, then do a search in these forums for "vacuum pump" or "vacuum pump seal" and see if that sounds like your problem.
BTW, the vacuum pump seal is not covered under the 100,000 mile warranty. It can be a fairly easy repair if you are somewhat handy though.

Its not diesel, I didn't taste it lol but I did smell it.
Could be the vacuum pump seal. I will clean it off and check it out.
I locked my tool boxes in 1990 and swore I would never work on vehicles again. Boy that didn't last.
I still wrench for fun, on the old mopars I have. I just didn't want to have to wrench on this one yet. And not on something like an oil leak.
The plus side is that I did not find the "53" when I was under there. I was happy to see that.
Thanks for the advice guys.
