oil leak help! possibly kdp?

I need some help or some ideas with my oil leak it was first leaking about half a quart a week. Also have a 2000 and i really dont know if kdp affects this late of year? at first i thought it was the timing cover gasket or the seal i replaced those and no i didnt know about the kdp then so i really didnt look at it. at the same time i rebuilt the vaccum pump also. i put it back together and i still get about two tiny drops everytime i park alot less then before but still leaks i cleaned it all up and it seems to stream down the crack where the case meets the block up by the injection pump and the vaccum pump then streams down the oil pan to the back of the motor. and help would be very much apprecaited!

Not quite time to hit the panic button yet.

The KDP damage usually occurs on the other side of the timing gear cover. When the pin falls out, it becomes lodged between the large timing gear and the case, in the area right next to the coolant pump. When this happens, there will be plenty of oil leaking near the coolant pump.

Sounds like your leak may be coming from the fiber gasket between the timing gear case and the block. When you had the front cover off, it would have been a good idea to check the torque on the bolts that secure the case to the block. Its unusual for these to loosen up enough for the gasket to start leaking.

If you used RTV to seal your front cover to the case, then that may be leaking. When I tabbed my KDP, I used a gasket from a ’98 12-Valver instead of the RTV.

There may also be a problem with the VP-44 support bracket cracking the timing gear case. I really doubt if that’s the case. The support bracket usually breaks first. Just an example here to illustrate the point.

thanks guys for all the help i looked today where it normally cracks the case on the passenger side of the case by the idle puller and its fine. I think it might have something to do with the o ring on the injection pump or maybe that support bracket on the pump also.

I forgot to mention the seal where the vacuum pump assy. attaches to the rear of the timing gear case. I can't remember if that is just a fiber gasket or an O-ring.

Maybe that was damaged when you installed the vacuum pump? There is plenty of oil flinging around in the timing gear case. It wouldn't take much of a problem with the mounting area's seal to let some oil migrate out and make a mess.
