oil leak above stock lift pump location

I have an 02 with an oil leak coming somewhere on the upper part of the engine above where the stock lift pump used to be (replace it with Air dog). I can't see back there well enough to figure out exactly where it is coming from. Only reason I really noticed it because I had the truck idling for over an hour while using the powersteering to press off one of my hubs to get to the ball joints. Had a pretty decent size pool of oil when I was done. Any ideas?

Sounds like the valve cover gasket to me.

Do they leak that bad? How big of job is it to do the valve cover gasket on it? Will have to take a closer look at it in the morning, now that I am done with the ball joints on it.

I took a closer look at it today and it isn't the valve cover. It is coming from right around where the wire bundle routes just aft of the engine mount. There is a sensor of some sort in that area, but it is just hard to tell for sure where it is coming from since the area is not readily accessible.

I took a closer look at it and it appears to be coming from behind the ECM. What is located back there? It isn't the valve cover leaking because it is clean up there so it is somewhere in between.

When you installed the Airdog, did you remove the stock lift pump? Did you also remove or disturb the mounting bracket? That bracket covers a hole
that will leak if it's not covered or if one of the bolts is out.

Yes, I decided the stock lift pump was not worthy of being left on the truck due to all the problems it gave me. From what I remember it had an L bracket that picked up a couple holes two of which I left open. Didn't realize those went clear through so I didn't put bolts back in to them. Will have to plug the two that I have open and see if that takes care of the problem.

thx

It was leaking behind the mounting bracket. What exactly is the hole for behind the stock lift pump bracket? Got her fixed now, thanks for the help.

That hole is a holdover from the 12V engines. It has to do with the mechanical lift pump.
