Oil Leak

I replaced my fuel pump with the Holley Black the other day and I did a stupid thing. I took off the stock fuel pump bracket. Little did I realize that there was a hole back there that led to the oil pan. I tightened the bolts down, but there is a small leak. After running at 70 mph for 15-20 mins, and letting the truck sit for about 3 hours, there is a puddle under the truck about the size of your palm. I was curious if it was hurting anything. Do we have a crankcase ventilation system? If we do, is this affecting it? Whenever I get about 30 or 45 mins free, I'm going to tighten it. I was just curious if it was hurting anything in the mean time. I have plenty of oil in it so that's not an issue. Thanks.

Re:Oil Leak

Cut the old pump part off the mount and rebolt the bracket back on to stop the leak. yes there is an oil hole there.<br> Danny

BigBlue:

As long as you didn't lose oil pressure, I don't think that you hurt anything. The crankcase is vented, hence the infamous crankcase vent tube. Other more mechanically inclined brethren than I can respond, but I think you are OK if the oil pressure didn't take a dive.

By the way, how's your fuel pressure with the new lift pump?

Re:Oil Leak

None of the Holley pumps are approved for diesel. I had looked into getting the red one for my '85 F350, when I found out about the Holley pumps.

Re:Oil Leak

FP sucks. Only seeing 9.4 at idle versus 13.4. The only one that would work for our trucks is the black cause it is a continuous flow. Rod said he has had a couple of complaints about bad pumps. When I talked to Summit about it, they said the line was to big and the pump couldn't flow enough fuel to fill it (1/2&quot; ID line). When I talked to Holley, they said it was mounted in the wrong spot. I think they are both full of crap. I'm going to take out as much of the excess line as I can and make the fuel flow as straight as possible and see if that helps. I cut about a foot off today of the line going to the inlet of the pump and raised the pressure a solid 1psi. So maybe if I take off a little more, I can get more pressure. I'll let yall know what happened. The oil pressure hasn't taken a dive so it's no big deal. Just an annoying oil spot.
