NV5600 viability
NV5600 viability
Howdy!
I guess I've been under a rock...I just found out about the demise of New Venture and the parts situation with NV5600 transmissions. I recently traded my 2002 with NV5600 for a 2006 with auto, but I want to get another 2002 for a toy and was going to look for one with an NV5600. Should I consider something else, or are the NV5600s going to be maintainable for the foreseeable future? If not, are there any reasonable swaps out there? (G56 maybe?)
Thanks,
Tad

Dodge and Company bought New Venture because they were fed up with the service they were not getting. Today, the only parts that are hard to find is the 1st gear cluster.
IMO getting parts should not be that big a deal.
I'm guessing here BUT..., like everything else associated with DODGE, you will be bent over on cost, but at least we won't have to worry about locating parts. Time will tell.

New Venture was a joint venture between Daimler Chrysler and GM. With GM being the operating partner of the business.
When all of the DCX contracts for transmissions dried up the business was dissolved.
$$$$ is why NVG is no longer around not quality. DCX owns their own transmission makers and no longer needs to out source to a more expensive tranny. The end user and the American worker are the ones who are suffering now.
The NV4500 and NV5600 are already legendary transmissions.....
More like notorious IMO...
The info was given to me via the major parts outlet here in Houston that has been around since the late 50's.
I wonder why I was told Chrysler now had NV and that parts were not going to be a future problem?
As for the reputation of the NV transmissions, the 5 speed wasn't to strong from the problems we all have experenced and from my point of view, the 6 speed ain't no Road Ranger...!
I won't trouble you with my dealings with Dodge over my NV600 but it was a PITA.
The input shaft in mine snapped at 115K and was never put right until it was rebuilt without any help from Chrysler. Now I'm dealing with replacing the syncro's after 135K. My T10, 3 spd OD, 9 spd, 11 spd, 13 spd, 18 spd, 21 spd and all of the other standard trans I've delt with over the last 45 years didn't have near the problems I've had to deal with when it comes manual transmissions.
No amount of tender care and maintenance will make up for the failures NV has put on the back of the public and now from what you are saying it seems we will continue to be having problems locating parts. I'm not suprised since I don't expect to much from Chrysler/NV, why should they change?
Please keep in mind, I am coming from the prospective of a person that makes a living dealing with and driving a truck for a living. I use the best and proven maintenance procedures with top shelf products, changing fluids every 4 oil service periods which means ever 30,000 miles. The only positive has been the Cummins Dodge decided to use because the NV600
isn't up to the task the 5.9L can deliver (it's the weak link in this deal).
