I bought my X wife a very nice Volvo once. A 740 dohc with a 5spd. Awesome car...Very zippy...fun to drive. It wasnt long before she was tired of the handshaker but wasnt prepared to part with the car so I bought a second with automatic and changed over both cars. The doner was a single cam. As was the case with a lot of dohc's it lacks torque on the low end and develops good HP in the top. The swap killed the car for me. She of course loved it, but for me it felt sluggish. The boy I sold the doner car too loved the 5 spd.
I guess my point is make sure theres not some not so obvious obsticles to getting what youre after. Look at the gearing in the final drives and compare.Im still wondering what makes an HO a HO.
The H.O.'s also use an HX-35 12cm housing turbo as opposed to the HY-35 9cm housing on the S.O.

you are correct, only automatic trucks from 2000-2002 used hy-35's with the 9cm housing, all manual trucks had hx-35's, and auto trucks previous to 2000 as well

I wonder if a Lenco Clutchless transmission would be less expensive

im sure it was a re-manufactured unit, but they run about $3-4K depending on if you have a core to send back or outright buying one

nope, 6th gear teeth decided they would rather lay in the tranny case instead of stay on the gear

the reverse synchros were slightly worn, and the guy recommended i go ahead and replace them

why did you suggest that the synchros were bad?
