NV4500 isues

Hi, First off my truck is a 2wd 2001 qc long bed with a 5sp, roughly 160,000miles. The rear seal on the trans was leaking pretty bad so a few days ago we replaced the seal, drained the fluid, and filled it up with royal purple 75-90w (i think) gear oil that meets gl4 and gl5 requirements. After the fluid change we pulled our travel trailer (5-6,000 lbs) about 1.5 hrs away. Now for the fun part. Today I noticed it is very hard to get into first or second gear, all the others seem ok. It will go into gear but it takes some effort. I havent pulled this trailer before (usually use my dads powerstroke), so i dont know if its because of pulling some weight, or because of the fluid i put in there. Any ideas on what could be wrong? The more i drive it the better it seems to get but its hard to tell.
Also, should i bother pulling the trailer back home tomorrow or should i go back and get the psd? I know i'd hate doing it, but ill suck up my pride a bit to save my transmission. Any help is greatly appreciated

thanks, Steve

Try getting the Castrol Syntorq (dealer fluid) or Amsoil for the NV4500. Its a different fluid than other MT oils, and synchro's get eaten up quicker without it. I've dumped two trannies with a good amount of miles on them, the oil came out nice and honey coloured. I put in Redline oil after I did much cluctch. When I yanked that tranny because of a roasted 3rd gear synchro and lack of 5th gear, it was engine oil black. I'm gonna stick to the stock fluid even if it is outrageously priced. Amsoil is actaully cheaper than the Castrol.

thanks for the input guys. I wasnt able to find amsoil or the castrol syntorque around here but i did get the mopar stuff recommended for this trans (the p/n listed on the pto output cover) and it seems to be shifting a lot smoother. Only time will tell if this fixes it but my fingers are crossed. Hopefully having the other fluid in there didnt hurt anything.

There's a reason the sticker on the tranny says to ONLY USE mopar p/n XXXXX or castrol syntorque. Don't let some royal purple or amsoil dealer tell you different.
