when shifting from 2nd to 3rd, the transmission grinds badly unless double clutched. Is it just synchronizers or is there possibly more to this problem?
thanks

How many miles on the truck? In addition to the oil has the clutch ever been changed? Mine started that way when the PILOT BEARING came apart. It finished by the parts falling down in the between the disc and pressure plate and preventing me from disengaging the clutch. I replaced it (with oem) and the clutch and ended up pulling it again to replace it with a ball bearing one. I got mine from quad4x4.com

I have no clue on if its a factory clutch or not because i bought it used at the dealership. My guess is that it is not a factory clutch because the truck came with guages and has wires that are cut (possibly fuel box?), plus the clutch chatters on takeoff. So my best bet is to take the trans out and go from there? I was not going to bother with it because it drives beautiful double clutching, but i'm looking to put an edge comp on. So i guess repairs come before play
Thanks

My clutch did this too............only ground going into 3rd unless I really babied it or double clutched. Some people gave me the advice to change oil & see what happened........I just figured if it was oil it would grind going into all gears. So I assumed that it was 3rd gear synchros. I bought a tranny off ebay from a place in Bruce, Tx.......might be bruceville.......either way, the guy claimed that they get overstocks from chrysler that are rebuilt. He still offers these trannies on ebay for $800, no core. The way I saw it, I couldn't lose. I would be able to keep my core and rebuild it when I had time, and always have a spare in case the one in my truck went south. The transmission I got off ebay now has over 25K on it and it still performs great. Just my 2 cents.
