NP241DHD rear seal

I've got a leak at the tailshaft seal on my truck and bought a new seal at NAPA for about 7 bucks. It doesn't look anything like the boot that is at the end of the tailshaft housing now. Is the boot just a cover and the actual seal in behind it? The part # for the seal I bought is 18999. It looks to be smaller in diameter than the boot seal at the very end of the housing. Any help on this much appreciated. Thanks, Kurt

kurtaing... i went through the same thing... i went back to NAPA & they just started pulling parts off the shelf until they got the right one... the correct one for the DHD was linked to a '99... i don't have the exact part number, will look up tonight at home... FWIW, mine is leaking again after 3 mos

I know Napa has them, I replaced mine back in Feb. And yes, I went thru the same deal too. I thought mine was leaking again, but I think I'm actually getting oil out thru the center of the yoke....its nice and dry around the seal.

kurtain... i guess i threw the old parts away... i can't find the box from the new part... if memory serves me correctly the NAPA part was around $20... hopefully you have a knowledgeable person at NAPA that will work with you in searching for the correct part... either draw a sketch or take the seal off your truck & take to NAPA... sorry i can't be of more help

when i put the new one on... i used the core from a roll of duct tape to gently & evenly tap back into place

Thanks, guys, I got the correct one from another NAPA guy. Different part # but it looks like it will work. Thanks, Kurt

Thanks for the duct tape trick, Wild. Worked like a charm, Who'd a thunk it! Kurt
