No start

Hey all, I have a no start issue maybe some of you could point me in the right direction. When I hit the switch it just makes a faint click and thats it.
This started out as a intermittent problem. I could just hit the switch a couple more times and then the starter would ingage.

Here is where I'm at...

Batteries fine

The starter is new, and tests fine( I watched him test it numerous times )
( Dont ask where the old denso went )

If it were the contacts or something in the starter even though its new, why would it test just fine on the bench ?

Starter relay ( I have changed it and tried it with both old and new )
Starter fuse is fine

Just to be thorough, have the batteries load-tested. Then check the battery cables and connections.

They can test fine on the bench because there is no load applied.

Probably a poor rebuild job.

You can also unhook the small wire and check it for around 12 volts by having someone turn the key. This will tell you the condition of the ignition switch.

No they havent been load tested, but when the starter actually ingages the truck starts lightning fast. Its got 2720cca hitting it. The problem is still intermittent. A buddy of mine today (out of shear curriousity I guess), hit the starter like 40 times in a row and it started about 30 of them. He was really just listening to the sound it was makeing when it didnt start.

You need to start at the batteries and work toward the starter, then.

After your latest post I am thinking you have a bad terminal(s) end or bad starter end on your cables. They can look good, but be shot.

Check the voltage at the starter as I suggested above and you will be able to toss out the ignition switch. Then, check the cables. I would bet that might be the problem after what you described.

Good luck.

The contacts in the solenoid could have pitting on them and that would give the intermittant starting issue.
