Unhappy No BLACK smoke!

I just bought a 1999 with 145000 on the dial and truck runs and starts fine no problem with anything, EXCEPT no black smoke when I go full throtle? My wifes mega cab bellows the charcoal. What gives? Hopefully not a fuel pressure problem.

Well My wife drives the 06 mega like a grandma and I get to drive it ever once in a while. When I HOG on it to get on the hiway or pass someone it will blow black smoke. I thought all diesel's did this? More fuel = smoke? right

Smoke=unburnt fuel or wasted fuel. My 2007 5.9 auto will blow just a little black smoke when I really get into it, like passing etc. Yours might do it because your wife drives it so easy and your just blowing the unspent crap out when you drive it. If you idle the truck for 10 minutes, then get in and let er rip, you will see smoke etc....

i think the stock 3rd gens smoke a lot more then stock 2nd gens. my dads 06 2500 mega cab will smoke pretty good when you get on it and its stock. same thing for my cousins stock 2003 3500 dually.

More fuel = smoke? right
Right, but stock, it normally won't let the motor have enough fuel to smoke.

The 3rd gen guys would be able to speak to your mega more, but pretty much a stock, computer controlled truck won't smoke very much.

Now when you start putting chips and stuff on you get A LOT MORE fuel, and smoke. Then you get more air to use the wasted fuel, then a clutch or tranny to hold it, then MORE fuel.... then eventually you end up flat busted with a truck that spits out dana 80s for fun

Well I dont think there is a "problem" with the 06. I was just wondering why my 99 did not puff any black smoke? I thought all diesel's did this. Just a little?
And I do not want to have enough power to spit out dana 80's iether...lol.

I had mine at the body shop about a year ago and when I picked it up we got into it, been out of the truck for almost a month so we wanted to hear the roar. When I did it rolled off a pretty thick cloud, it was stock then. I figure it was from them putting around the shop, paint booth etc, etc. Little old ladies in there caddy's going from the grocery store to church and home will complain that the car ain't running right. Take it on a hot lap around the community and blow the carbon out of it and give it back to her....no charge of course. Maybe that's what's happening with your 07'?? Just a thought.

as everyone said above a stock truck, unless its not running completely normal, won't smoke, maybe very little when you first stomp on it before the turbo lights, but after that it should run very clean, with my injectors and my edge comp on I'd only smoke a little when i first stomped on it, and thats a lot of extra fuel, I unplugged the map so I had more down low now I smoke more that I'd ever need, but I really think your 06 shouldn't smoke that much, if any, since its maybe 2 years old. I think either somethings plugging your air flow, or you're getting a lot of extra fuel.
