No 4 wheel drive... what happen??
my 4 wheel drive worked fine before.. now the floor shifter moves to wherever u want it to, and it has low range, but it doesnt show the 4x4 light anymore and its only two wheel drive... what could this be???? maybe the auto locking hubs?? i dont know, anyone have any ideas?? would greatly be appriciated!! thanks jared
I had this happen to me before. I got a call from a friend, saying he got stuck down below his house while feeding cows. So I go do there to pull him out. Well, I try and try to get my 4x4 to engage, and nothing happens. Next day I take my truck to the dodge house, and turns out, my hubs were full of dirt and wouldnt engage.
So if thats your case, just take your truck the local dodge house and let them clean out/replace the hubs...

Had this happen from lack of use of 4x4 on my 95. It was the vacuum servo gummed up on the slide. I removed and cleaned. But everybody is right check the vacuum lines first. Put a gauge if you have it on the lines at the tranny and see if there is a switchover when you move the shifter in and out of 4x4.

I just had the same problem. I checked out the vacuum lines all the way to the front axle actuator and they appeared fine. I started disconnecting them and checkin for vacuum. I found vacuum in the lines coming down from the top of the transfer case but nothing beyond. Finally I just took off the vacuum lines from below my transfer case all the way to the actuator on the right side of the front axle and examined them. Sure enough I found a cut in both lines near the where they are bent by the right side frame rail and another hole nearer to the actuator. None of these defects were visible while mounted under the truck. $26 later from the dealer I have new vacuum lines. I definately recommend taking off the lines to take a closer look for leaks.
Start at the firewall where the vacuum line comes from the main branch of the vacuum circuit and trace the lines all the way to the front axle.
If you don't have vacuum, you won't be able to engage or disengage the front axle. The light on the dash only illuminates when the front axle is engaged. If you don't find any vacuum leaks, then it could be a bad servo on the front axle.
