Newbie Fuel Question
Newbie Fuel Question
I've been reading a lot about fuel problems, and not sure what I should expect. I just purchased truck a year ago with 90K on the odometer. I'm wondering can someone tell me what to look for in my truck to see if there were any fuel upgrades completed before me? Also i'm assming I should add fuel pressure guage, and I'm wondering what I would do with the information? Is there a certain fuel pressure we should be maintaining?
Thanks for any help...

As for fuel upgrades. if you still have the lift pump mounted on the drivers side lower rear portin of the block which sends fuel to the injection pump, it's stock. trace the fuel line back to the tank and if there is no other pumps in the line it's stock. the factory lp will be just below the fuel filter canister and have a steel line (about a foot long) running to the injector pump. Don't quot me my mind is overworked right now, but I think stock pressure should be 10 to 12 psi at idle, no less than 5 or 7 psi at wide open. If that pump is not there and no other pumps in the line to your injector pump then you have the stock replacement in-tank pump.
Yea probably gonna want to getta fuel gauge (guage is preferrable to warning light). Now if its readin the right pressure and ya dont plan on bombing your truck then I wouldnt get a new one. If it aint broke dont fix it. If you do end up needing a new one then i'd recommend the Holley Blue, good pressure and reliability (at least in my case) and about 125.00 ish. Jus my .02
gauges and silencer ring
Thanks, I think gauges is where I'll start, I was looking at using the upgraded pillar with three gauges in it- I'm assuming fuel pressure, tranny temp, and turbo boost would be my most usefull choice?
Also I was reading in a lot of the posts about removing the silencer ring? Is that a good idea and is it something I can do myslf? And what are the benefits?
Thanks- so many questions, so little time...

Fuel pressure 0 to 30psi gauge, boost 0 to 60psi gauge, Egt gauge most are 0 to 1600. These are the ranges I have. Egt will help more with monitoring the engine, exhaust temps can tell you alot about what is going on with the truck and tell you when to back out of it a little(so you don't burn it up). I would do the trans gauge last. I am running all four also,I put the trans temp on the steering column and the others in the pillar, boost up top, egt in middle, fuel pressure on the bottom.
