Newbie
New to diesels been readin the forums and got a question on a couple of codes. I have 2001 -2500 Ram stock, 5 spd man.
Code #1) P 1693 Code #2) 0216
I believe that the 1693 is - DTC detected in ECM or PCM? Thats nice but what does it mean?? feel free to correct me and thanks for any help!

welcome to dtr. there is a link to dodge specific codes. if you use the search button for the particular code you are pulling, you will see a wealth of info on each

0216 is not a code you want to be seeing.
0216 = Fuel Injection Timing Circuit Failure, also know as the VP44 death code.
The VP44 is the injection pump that makes the engine run. An expensive piece to replace.
The 1693 is DTC in companion module. All this means is there is a trouble code logged in the ECM (Cummins) as well as the PCM (Dodge).

What a great bunch out there - thanks for the info. regarding the codes. From what I gather it sounds as if it is the begining of the end for the vp44
. I better get moving on it so as not to end up dead in the water someday soon . Again thanks - Frost

Wow, you took that good, sorry for the bad news. Hope you didn't just get it. There are sevaral dealers on here that can get you a good deal on a pump. You will also need a new lift pump (upgrade would be better) and a in cab fuel presure gauge
I actually got it by default a few months back - my son had an eye problem - he couldn't see making the payments, so good ol'dad (me) said "it's mine now"
I bought the extended warranty and hope it will cover all or at least part of the bill so as not to give me a coronary or a stroke.
I won't rant & rave till I find out the damage in $$$$$ or the extended warranty won't cover any of it then I'll be PO'd. I gave my son my 1996 Toy. T-100, it has 306,000 Mi's & still running strong. I might take it back from him after reading the grim postings.
Thanks again & keep ya posted - Frost
