New VP44 Installed.
Well board;
I Bit the bullet, and installed a rebuilt Bosch VP44 yesterday afternoon. Ended up taking it to a Bosch shop up in Watertown, SD. About an hour away, but they were very reasonably priced in comparison to all others I checked with. I paid $1325 total.....R+R. I was pretty pleased considering the dealer wanted $1425 for the pump, and another $400 for labor. No dead peddle all the way home.
I've got a one year warranty on this pump.
My only dissapointment, was that the intermittent miss at idle after the engine is warmed up, is still present. It's not a very prominent miss.....but the every couple seconds it's like the engine stutters.....if you watch the tach, you can see it jump just a little. Anybody have an idea what this is? Guess I may just have to live with it for the time being, unless it's a simple fix. (I'm pretty broke now)
Thanks to everyone who contributed on my VP44 issues. I hope my fuel system will be A - OK for a long time now. Plan on replacing my plastic nylon fuel gauge line with stainless,.....and monitoring that guage pretty closely in the future.

In my case that miss in the idle was from clogged injectors that I suspect resulted from lack of fuel pressure while the pump was bad. It's an easy thing to pull and check the injectors just in case.

Can you actually feel it when the tach neelde "wiggles"? If not I believe I have read its normal, for the tach needle to move. IIRC the tach doesn't constantly read the engine rpm but rather samples it at a pre determined rate, and eveyno and then it will be different than the last sample and the tach shows this. mine does it to, but I dont feel it, just see the needle bouncing.

Yes, you can feel it miss while sitting in the cab......and it's pretty audible standing alongside the pickup. I'll look into the injector issue. Maybe try a bottle of Lucas injector cleaner? Anybody else have any suggestions for a good injector cleaner ? I typically run Powerservice.....it hasnt seemed to make a difference.

I ran all the different cleaners all the time. I would change brands off and on just to cover all the bases. Did no good at all. I'm sure it helped keep things lubed but did nothing to keep from clogging. At 140,000 miles I had 2 stock injectors totally clogged.

Hey, we got the same problem, we are getting another new injection pump. Seems they are having trouble with rebuilt pumps lately. So i just thought i'd tell you my story and it is probably the injection pump. Becuase my thing about the injectors is, did it have a rough idle before the new pump, not in our case. Just giving my $.02.
I know if DonM reads this he has at least 3 trucks doing the exact same thing.

I've used Powerservice almost since new. You can take a look at my injectors in my Gallery. I changed them at approx 95,000 miles. No plugged holes. However, I did have a little surge/miss until I put the Comp on. Now it is very smooth.
