Question

Haulin,

Do you have a part number for the updated pump bracket? Thanks.

I don't have the part number, just tell Cummins what you want, they should have it in stock.

I understand Blue chip will make a Hot Rod pump if you request it.
I just put one of the BlueChip pumps on mine last night. Install went very well and it starts better and sounds right, but will report back tomorrow on the perf.

Thanks Haulin. I'll just give Cummins a call.

I also ordered a Blue Chip replacement pump. Mine just arrived today. I hope to get it on by Monday, so I will report back my impressions. Just shy of 90k miles on my '99 and this will be my third VP-44, so I hope it lasts a while this time.

Ok, after a day of driving, it is nice to have it running smooth. I ran it up to the gov, in first to see how it was. When it was stock--before any mods--- it would sopund like a miss-fire at 2800rpm and above.
That is all gone and it pulls fine past 3000.
Of course that isn't real important to me, as I seldom go over 2200, just want it to run correctly.
Now, I am after any mileage changes. It would be nice to get back to 20-22 highway. I have seen as low as 12 with this pump acting up. With, about 16-17 every day numbers.

For those who are interested, the Cummins part number for the updated pump support bracket is 3938707.

I just replaced my vp yesterday and the rear support bracket is a solid unit on a 01 it has two torx bolts that bolt to the pump and two bolts that bolt to the engine, I can't see having anything more sturdy maybe the older engines used a different mount.

Well I just got my old pump pulled, and it looks like I already have the new bracket. The new one I bought at Cummins is exactly the same. So I don't know when they made the change in brackets. My truck did have the pump replaced before under warranty, so maybe they updated the bracket then.

It has been updated, the '99 did not come with it.

"It has a different computer design somehow to prevent the heat cycle problems."

Does the top of the pump have cooling fins? What is different about the computer to solve the problems?

for any of you who are interested Blue Chip doesnot make a hot rod pump, scheid does make one that gives you 40hp, Industrial Injection makes one also which gives you 80hp. Scheids pump is $1782 and Industrial's pump is $1600.
