Bought a truck about 2-3 weeks ago. 99 cummins 24 valve. anyways, I drove it for about 600 miles and it died. Started idling high and running horrible.
Anyways, I bought the truck with an "r" title. What i didn't know was that this voided the entire cummins warrenty (100K). The truck was a very good deal...70K miles ext cab and the works for $14000, but I'm stuck with no money now.
Anyways, Now I'm gonna be stuck a $2000 bill that I don't have the $$ to pay.
Anyone have any suggestions or am I basically screwed?

What's an "R" title mean. Salvaged????

 

I feel for ya...used trucks are a bit of a risk....I ran my VIN number through a dealership before I bought mine.

yep...salvaged title...etc...

 

I could tell you some real horror (No not jane fonda) stories about salvaged vehicles and warranties. My business is collision repair, so I've run into some dillys. But yes, however idiotic it might be, related to the damage or not, you are up the creek.... :'(

 

if your handy you can do the job yourself for about $1000...i did mine, wasnt that bad ...we can help w/ instructions..

Go to your local auto parts store and get a HAYNES manual for your truck and read the R&R instructions, has pic's and good explanation...the one tricky part is the keyway on the shaft but we will cover that if u decide to tackle the project...as for getting the pump, why not contact the post above from WTTD ? he is one of our vendors...

While you are doing the pump change-out, check the KDP and neutralize it if needed.

 

well, i talked to a guy that works on cummins a lot, however, i think its basic maintnence. He said he woudln't do a injection pump change..to many tools and setting hte timing and stuff.
I think i'm just gonn have the dealer do it and just deal with it.

Really no special tools required on a 24 valve like yours. Fanciest thing you need is a steering wheel puller for the pump gear (available at about any auto store), a torque wrench (125ft lb for the pump nut), and maybe an offset 3/4" wrench. The pumps come with the proper key, it's pretty much a r/r deal.
