New to Forum w/problem

Hi To all..
I have a 99 with a problem. Just replaced VP44 and lift pump but now have different problems.
1. Hard starts after sitting all night.
2. Lots of smoke out of pipe.
3. Loss of power after accelerating.
4. surging.

Loss of power is happening around 45 to 50 mph. Will gain speed after letting off pedal. Max speed seems to be 60 mph. Boost seems normal, exhaust temp seems normal. Engine heats up much quicker than normal. I did the work on truck and no problems putting new VP 44 on or lift pump. I put FASS pump on instead of OEM.

Thanks ahead of time.

I will probable get the ECM flashed Friday.

Loose fuel lines to the VP44?.. Could be sucking in air, or losing pressure. Sucking in air would also cause loss of prime and hard starting after sitting a while.
And - welcome to the club! What a way for the first post, though

I'd also recommend checking for air inlet. That's usually a cause of hard starting assuming all the electronics are working (safe assumption given your new VP44).

You also could need a throttle position switch as well (tps) Did the same thing to mine and had simular problems put that on and was golden!
