Needing to rebuild a hy35. Ebay kit any good or replace with a hx?

My hy35 has a seal or something leaking because there is oil in my intercooler boots. Where is a good place to buy the kit? I say kits on ebay for around $50 and was wondering if they would be alright. I've also thought about just buying a hx35 and replacing the hy with it. I believe I've read it's pretty much a direct replacement turbo right

$50 is about right for a rebuild kit. If you want to spend the $300 for a new HX35 it is a better than the HY for pulling. For a daily driver and around town with an auto the HY is faster to spin up.

I'd do the HX in a heartbeat!
Only reason for the HY was emmisions control. Much better breathing with HX-35....which was standard on Autos till the EPA stuck their nose in!
Will take you about 3 days to no longer notice the very slight spoolup difference... especially with your fueling chip.

Ad some RV275 injectors for a great combo!

I've replaced my HY with HX (WHC1) and there is NO difference in spool up between the two, and the HY is nothing but a EGT problem

hey-Hey!!!,
I've asked about those too. Seems the story on those is that they're Chinese. They're also all 8-blade compressors and it was suggested that I avoid them( though the 7 v. 8 thing is of little consequence for a real Holset compared to the origin/place-of-manufacture ).

I'm putting an HX35 in place of my little H1C on my '90. Should be a small-but-nice step up.
cheers,
Douglas
