Need Help With Codes
Yesterday I was driving to town and all the gauges in the instrament panel quit working. The abs, airbag, fuel, and check engine lights came on and the odometer started blinking no bus. The truck still drives and shifts normal and the gauges started working again. The codes from the odometer are 1694 1693 1687 and 1698. Any suggestions would be great.
I'm not familiar with these but here they are if anyone else can use them.
P1687 No MIC BUS Message.
No CCD/J1850 messages received from the Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) module.
P1693 DTC Detected in PCM/ECM or DTC Detected in ECM.
A Companion DTC9 was set in both the ECM and PCM.
P1694 No CCD Messages received from ECM.
Bus communication failure to PCM.
P1698 No CCD Messages received from PCM Bus communication failure to PCM.
A Companion DTC was set in both the ECM and PCM.
P1687 No MIC BUS Message.
No CCD/J1850 messages received from the Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) module.
P1693 DTC Detected in PCM/ECM or DTC Detected in ECM.

P1694 No CCD Messages received from ECM.
Bus communication failure to PCM.
P1698 No CCD Messages received from PCM Bus communication failure to PCM.
A Companion DTC was set in both the ECM and PCM.
I tried a apps reset and it seemed to help the slight surging the motor had at a very light throttle. Unhooking the battery cables turned the check engine light off and after driving a few miles its still off. The no bus problem has happened only 2 times and seems to happen first thing in the morning on a rainy day. Any suggestions would be great.
I posted basically the same thing not to long ago, and I haven't gotten a reply. Mine just did it again this morning, and I am fixing to go try and figure it out. The first time mine did it, I took the gauge cluster out and put it back in and it started working again. I hope that works again.
Mine did it when it was rainin hard and I hit a puddle. Disconnect batteries and check your plugs at the ecm and bcm. I put electric grease on my plugs to make sure no moisture gets in again. No problems sense...
It actually sounds like the PCM and ECM are just losing comm. I don't know how they are physically connected, but all the codes point to companion codes in the opposite modules. There are a lot of electronic busses on this truck and if your truck still drives okay (no problems with acceleration, idling, transmission, etc.) it's probably not an actual problem with the PCM/ECM but maybe just the connections somewhere. The PCM is on the passenger side firewall behind the airbox. The ECM is on the right side of the engine behind the lift pump. There's also a Central Timer Module (for lights, locks, etc.), a Controller Anti-Lock Brake (for, you guessed it, ABS), and a datalink connector (CCD or Chrysler Collision Detection) that monitors all the datalink connections.... My unprofessional opinion is the CCD Bus is corrupting messages or grounded. It may be due to these problems:
Bus Shorted to Battery
Bus Shorted to 5 Volts
Bus Shorted to Ground
Bus (+) Shorted to Bus (–)
Bus (–) and Bus (+) Open
Bus (+) Open
Bus (–) Open
No Bus Bias
Bus Bias Level Too High
Bus Bias Level Too Low
No Bus Termination
Not Receiving Bus Messages Correctly....
One of the visual indications is that there will be no instrument cluster operation and the airbag indicator will be lit. The bus is a network connected by twisted pair wire that has to have a voltage differential to work correctly. If the wires are not twisted properly (you added something to your truck and pulled wires apart) or if there is an open ground touching the wire it would give you problems. It sounds overly involved and complicated (read: expensive) to have a technician diagnose it but that should be a start....

I have had no trouble since my last post. I installed the quadzilla mileage max two weeks before before this happened. May be there is some loose connections on the wiring hook ups. If it happens again I will check the pcm and ecm connections for moisture. Both times this happened was an a rainy and damp morning. Thanks for the suggestions.
