My truck seems to be making diesel fuel

I installed a S&B cold air intake about 2 weeks ago. Initially not much difference. Checked the mileage twice since installation. All around town stop and go. Before filter 12 mpg now 14 plus. The truck seems to be faster almost like it is learning to use the fuel better. Is this possible or is it just some placebo effect because I can now hear more turbo whistle? Anyone else have this happen?

I've modified just about every vehicle I have ever owned to try to squeeze a little more power out of the stock engines. It seems like you think you feel more power after even the slightest tweak/adjustment etc. I know I get better mileage since upgrading my exhaust to a 4" and it 'seems' to accelerate a little better. I thought taking out the silencer ring made a little bit of difference too but guys with proper measuring equipment and knowledge say this has no affect. I'm doing an air cleaner/torque tube mod after my front end rebuild so we'll have to wait and see if I experience the diesel making phenomena too!
