Well I have had my 98.5 24valve truck 1 week and when I got into the truck after church today it fired up for a couple of seconds and then did not catch. I can hear the pump pumping. I tried to started it about 5 time then let it crank for about 20 seconds and it started up. It has always start at the first instant. The stock lp had been changed out in the last year or so. Yesterday I changed the oil and fuel filter with new orings for the fuel filter and drove it to get fuel and it was fine after the filter change for about 45 miles. Today it started perfect this mourning and I drove it to church it sat for about 3hrs and did not start as I said. I got home about 4 miles and put a hose and 30psi guage on the inner most plug to the center bolt of the fuel filter and the pressure is 15.5psi BUT twice while idleing the pressure fell to about 7psi and returned to 15.5psi. quickly. Any thoughts on my new truck thanks ED

 

whats ur milage like? any loss in power?

 

I have only gone through 1 tank of fuel since I have had the truck only 1 week. The power seems fine. I did not try to get on it on the way home till I new what was going on with the fuel pressure. I will go out now after it has set for a couple of hours and recheck the fuel pr. I will not drive it till I get a permanent fuel pressure cage installed.

 

well it could be ur lp going out agen, the stock ones really suck, or it could be the injection pump, but with that u should feel it in the power like when u go up hills and ur milage will go down

 

power is fine but did see a change in fuel pressure while idling twice a fast jump from 15.5 to 7psi the back. so maybe it is the lp. I appreciate the input Ed

 

Every time my lp started putting out rapid pressure changes the pump was about to die.

 

I mounted a temp pressure guage and will monitor it and will do some testing tomorrow. Then I will have to research my alternative for lift pumps. Thanks ED

 

as far as the starting issue i had the same thing...i just let i go on for about 6 months though till i had bugged everyone i know to death about the issue...course i knew my lp was good so i kinda narrows it down to the vp...changed it out and what do you know...no more problems.

 

I had the same problem. with the hard start. But it was just the return line on the back of the head was loose and the lines were bleading off some how.

 

will be putting in an Air Dog and filter system next week when it comes in, hate to spend the money BUT do not want to deal with this over and over. I have not decide if I will leave the old fuel filter/water separator and heater senser unit in the truck or bypass it, whats the thought on that. ED

 

Please do change to fuel sysyem relay under hood next to driver side battery under black cover. My truck left me standed once, got tow home next moring ran fine, following morning no start at all. I changed the Injection pump still no start replaced the relay and instantly fired up. You can decide if I wasted $1200 to replace a $12 relay but the piece of mind is about priceless..

It turned out to be a cracked injector line. It's one of the few things Dodge ever covered under warranty
