My fuel pressure numbers.
Just came from the dealer and they gave me my fuel pressure as follows:
12 psi key on 11 psi idle 9 psi 2000 rpm.
My fuel filtert has just been replaced.
The truck is a 2001 2500 diesel 6 spd 4x4 with 104,000 km or 65,000 miles.
Can some of you comments on these numbers the dealer said they were within specs but i don't trust them at all...
Thanks .

Not bad but not great either.......I assume 2000 rpm at no load? If so, that # is worthless......The important pressures are measured at cruise and WOT.....the motor barely uses any more fuel at 2000 rpm no load than it does at idle.

Suggest spending the money for gauges. My first time pulling my travel trailer, the tranny gauge saved my trans. The same can be said for the fuel pressure gauge saving your injection pump.

My truck idles at 20 PSI, cruises at 14-15 PSI and can drop to 9-10 at WOT, this is with a pusher-pump and upgraded fuel lines. As mentioned above, when you have to labor the motor is when Fuel Pressure is important, mine cuts in half as you can see.

Thanks for the comments so far.
I used to tow a 5 th wheel but have it park on private land by the beach and i doubt if i will tow again as it is such a beautiful place .
We also like the truck we have and i use it to go in the woods to hall firewood and living in Canada the 4X4 is usefull so we are debating if we should sell the diesel or keep it.
If we sell it we will buy a smaller truck for sure.

You got the picture TThomass,
Fuel cools and lubes the injector pump. No fuel, no cool or lube, the injector pump suffers. We use the pressure readings to see if the lift pump is getting enough fuel to the injector pump.
Insufficient pressure is caused by the lift pump not working good, a clogged filter or a leak. We watch this with a pressure gauge.

I had similar #s on my 01 with only 35k
Had 10 idling, 7 going down the road, 3 wide open
New lift pump=
14-15 idling, 12-13 going down the road and 7 or 8 wide open
Gauges are a must!

not sure on cost to have installed, if you buy the gauge from one of the vendors on this site they will sell you everything in one package and it's a very simple install. If you are handy the task can be accomplished in less than 30 minutes (for a fuel pressure gauge) all the gauges will take a few hours.
