Most common problems on 99 CTD
My '99:
Routine oil, oil filter, fuel filter, fluid changes.
Replaced lift pump at 32,000 miles.
Replaced tires, front brakes twice.
Now at 70,000 miles.
Still running great. (knocking on wood)

My '99:
Bought it new, now have over 250,000 miles on it.
Changed the original lift pump at 200,000 miles
Replaced the CPS
Replaced the rear axle speed sensor
Replaced the MAP sensor at about 200,000 miles
Repaired the wiring in the steering column
Replaced the cruise control vacuum switch
Other than that, just regular maintenance (fluid and filter changes, brake pads and shoes, etc.).

It's way too slow - but there's a TSB for that - see sig.
On a serious note, most of the front suspension on the 4x4 is problematic, especially the ball joints and track bar. Many have problems with TQ "hunting" due to excessive electrical noise. Cracked exhaust manifolds are fairly common. Braking needs improvement.

Flatty,
When I got my 1999 truck it had 38,819 miles on it. I have replaced the following:
at 68,113 lift pump
at 95,799 injector pump (under warranty, that was close)
at 108,690 passenger head light
at 124,906 drivers side head light
at 111,873 Luke's link on track bar
at 115,180 ABS sensor
at 131,291 wiper blades
I have bought 10 tires. Changed the oil 13 times, fuel filter 7 times and air filter 3 times.
BIGHEAD, sounds like you need to put an exhaust brake on your truck. I have 133,xxx miles on my truck and still have the factor pads and shoes.

I have a 99 with 64k on it. After reading about all of the LP problems I decided to just change the LP every 50k as part of routine maintenance. I figure its a cheap part that can do alot of damage if it goes out so why watch FP to decide when to change it, its going to go out either way.
when I got mine it came dwn with a "thump" ever so slight ..mostly notice it at coast speed.....after all kinds of inspection and looking....I looked in the oil pan...see my sig.
To make a long story longerI had to reman the eng.- now I know you said 99 and mine is a 98.5 but they are the same

Well let's see......
I've had mine since I bought it new in 99 and so far I've had the following headhaches:
4 set of tires (last approx 20 to 26K miles) BFG A/T KO's seem to last the longest
front brakes changed 4 times ( currently using ceramic - which I HIGHLY recommend - wish I had installed them the first time! LOL)
55K miles replaced both batteries
72K miles had both pumps replaced
87K miles oil pressure censor went bad
89k miles crank censor had major coronary
100,250 miles ( just out of warrenty!!!!!) starter died..
Still, reguardless of the few things that have gone wrong - and yes some of them have been costly - friggin $450 starter!!!!! - I gotta love the truck! So far it's out performed every vehicle I've ever owned or driven for the last 35 yrs (except an army duce and a half! LOL)!!
