Missfire at idle hot engine
Missfire at idle hot engine
Hi I have just purchased a 1999 24v standard trans with 222000 Km on it. The truck is bone stock. Just replaced the air filter, fuel filter, and lift pump (dealer broke wire off).

When I purchased the truck I noticed the idle problem and a small engine noise only audible only under deceleration at about 1300 rpm sounds like valve noise or possibly a colapsed piston, mabey inj. knock. The noise can not be heard when the injection pump kicks back in to maintain idle, and the engine runs good under all other conditions. I told the dealership I would purchased the truck if they would fix the previously stated problems. So far they ran an engine cleaner through the fuel system (idle worse noise same). Then they told me to change the oil after 1000 Km.Their reason for this is stickey valves.
I also have ajusted the valve lash, no change. Could this be worn injectors, and does anyone have specs. for testing ( crack presure, ect).
Any info. would be greatly appreciated.
Re:Missfire at idle hot engine
Could be:
1. a bad Crankshaft Position Sensor.
2. a bad injector

Usually with a bad injector it will skip or miss pretty consistently unless it is sticking intermittently.

The CPS will cause misfires.

Look here:

http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/tro...4v_trouble.htm

What I don't see in your description is when it is misfiring as indicated by the subject of your post. If it is just a noise, that is another ball game.

Go further down in the link I gave you above and look at the section that talks about noise from the heater box area. Be more descriptive of what is happening and what it sounds like and maybe you will get more responses and some help.
