Misses at idle

I have a late 99 with 174, 000 K. Just recently it's been missing at an idle. Only does it when hot and has been driven for a while. Seems worse from the transition from idle to 1000 rpm and back down again. Fuel pressure is 16 psi idle, 14 WOT. 1psi across the fuel filter. Has excellent power as it did from day one. Possible the main pump is dying? If so, why on one cylinder only.?
PS, doesn't use or make oil and no fuel leaks anywhere.
Anyone had similar problems?

I had the same problem with my '99 at 125k miles. It showed up after I installed a new VP and second LP. I installed the FASS and it helped some -- performing a "volume test" showed that I still had air being pushed through the fuel line (too much for the FASS to remove). I installed a new "stand pipe" to eliminate a leaking pick-up tube inside the fuel tank. It helped more, but never completely eliminated the miss. Unfortunately, I totaled the '99 before resolving the issue. Since you have a ’99, check if the miss is more noticeable when your fuel level drops below ½ to 5/8 tank – if so, replace your pick-up tube (see my pics). Only reason I can think of for this to be more noticeable at idle is that it shows up as a power loss while under load (higher RPM) instead of a miss. I noticed the truck had more power after these BOMBs.

On my ‘00, I've noticed an occasional miss while the engine is hot (rare occasion while stopped at a stop sign). It may just be my paranoia about my VP going south. I installed the AirDog and replaced the pick-up tube shortly after buying the ‘00 to eliminate the LP issue. If my memory is correct (since the search function is currently disabled), previous postings indicate it may also be an electronic issue (electrical interference with the PCM/ECM). Hopefully you can get someone else to chip in with ideas/suggestions.

Yeah, full or empty doesn't seem to matter. I might check the pump back pressure valve see if it's not holding properly. I really don't care for the OEM lift pump. You would think after so many failures they would have a fix. I guess no-one's listening yet.

i wander if that can possably be my problem aswell.. because when i have the truck off it sounds like every 20 mins the f.a.s.s system will make noise like its trying to release some air .....im not totally sure where it comes from but i heard it a few times one day while doing all the interior wiring for my 4 gauge pod cluster....plus when the truck is on you can hear the F.A.S.S system constantly removing air even after driving for hours...........it never made since to me on how i be pulling so much air....maybe i need to try to figure it out one day....how much was the unit you replaced in the fuel tank?...and how long it hard was it?......

Miss in engine should be missing completely!!!

Well the miss that you speak of mine has been doing that since new. Has had lousy power (gutless) Has no lug power from idle up have to rev it up to start off. I have a bad voltage problem from the PDC. Taking the PDC apart it seems to be good so far that I have checked with my Fluke meter.
The output of the alternator is and was good for it was replaced at the dollarships suggestion changing the batteries hasn't made any change in the operation. When I checked the diodes , capacitor and meggered the windings of the ALT it was all good. Mine bucks terribly at the 1100 to 1275 rpm and is almost undriveable below 1650 rpm even down hill. When I got the truck I complained continously about loaded welding trucks being able to pass me out of an intersection when I was empty. The best one was a 3/4 ton gas Chev pulling a 20 plus foot 5 th wheel with the 275 hp new injectors I could barely get ahead of him through the intersection.
Have scope readings if anyone is interested. I have the proof.

The "1/2 inch Stand Pipe" kit cost me $75 including shipping (bought July '04 from ADT). When I purchased all the items separately for my second truck's install, I probably saved myself $20 (not including fuel and time in driving 20 miles to get them). Without knowing what to do the first time, it was worth the $20 to get instructions from Dave at ADT. It was fairly easy to install.

On the first install I dropped the fuel tank -- total time was about 2 hours going slow to make sure I didn't miss anything. I had the fuel tank below 1/4 full so it was easier to handle. The second install took place while I was removing the 3" body lift on the '00. I had to pull the box off in order to remove spacers that were welded onto the frame -- total install for the stand pipe was 1/2 hour (plus time to remove the box).
