Miss at idle???????

My truck has developed a small miss at idle. It feels like when you get a missfire on a gasoline engine such as when the distributor gets wet or a plug wire isn't on all the way. The truck runs great under load or at cruise. All the filters are new, fuel pressure won't budge from 15psi, no codes and I know it dosn't matter but the VP is only 2 years old. No changes were made, the miss just started one day. Any you guys run into this before? Its not causing the truck to stall or even come close but it is bugging me. Thanks for any ideas.

I would do a valve adjust if over 100k miles on truck, then try a diesel injection additive. Could be just soot buildup on injector tips.

Adjusted the valves two months ago and have been running additive since I bought the truck. I don't think its soot build-up, just got back from a trip through the mountains pulling, the EGT's were up for a while so the combustion chambers should be relativly clean, but what do I know.

same problem here. it only happens when it is at operating temp and it is random. it wont do it for a week then it does it everytime I go to idle for a while then it goes away again. I have changed everything short of the ecm and it still does it.
Do a search. you are not alone.

My 94 12v has a lot of ticking in the valve train when I go too far bewteen oil changes... I change my oil every 5k with 50/50 lucas and rotella... If I start to hear excessive noise, I know it's time to change the oil (even if I'm not at the 5k marker yet). I don't know if this will fix anyone else's issues, but it works for me. My old beater has just under 260k miles on it and it runs like a champ. Of course I havn't "cranked it up, all I've added to date is the exhaust and the K&N drop in filter) " and I seldom drive faster than 65 or 70 so that may have a lot to do with it (most of the speed limits around my house are 45 - 60).

I'm going to do a valve adjustment this weekend... if anyone is interested I can let you knwo if my milage jumps up a mpg or so... It usually does when I do this.

I adjust my valves every year... they don't need much adjusting... the number 1 and number 6 valves (not always the same one but always those 2 cylinders) for some reason are always out by a mill in the strectched direction (ie the valve clearance has to back off a bit)... wonder if there is a service bulletin about this???

Johnny
