Mileage with auto

My truck seems to run just fine, I have replaced the VP44 and lift pump. I did the ground wire for the T/C lock unlock problem. I have a superchips tuner set on middle setting. My mileage values are in the city, little highway. I don't leadfoot too bad and my mileage is pretty bad (I think) 18-20 litres/km or 12-13 mpg. Full to fuel light going on 460km this time (92 litres fuel) I spoke to some guy today that claims in his 02 (standard trans) he gets 900 km to a fill! Does the auto suck the mileage down that bad. How much difference could I hope for with an upgrade TC?
Cheers
Alan

Truck in sig. I average 400 miles per tank, easy on the go peddle but sometimes I have to play, stock truck, mainly city driving. I would think it all depends on your driving, city/hwy. I'll see 18-19 empty on the hwy.

I'm right there in the 18+ crowd.

I can get 1475 miles on 82 gallons (50 gal extra tank).
Basically I can get two weeks of driving @ 120 miles a day.

I noticed with the new trans and bigger injectors I gained about 2mpg, from 16 to 18+.

I get about 16mpg, that's about half city and half highway. What is the problem that the TC needs the ground wire fixed? Never heard of that.

Yeh,

What is with the TC repair? I have not heard of that either.

I get about 17mpg combined driving.

I am guessing that the ground wire thing is cleaning the grounds to keep the TC from locking and unlocking. I get back and forth to work (mostly highway with some city) and 21 on the interstate (all hand calc'ed). I did pick up around 2 mpg with the Van Aaken box.

Many moons ago when my 99 auto was stock, I would get 16-17 MPG around the city and 19-20 MPG on the highway with #2 diesel (no winter blend, unloaded, little headwinds). Now, with my modifications, typically get 22-23 MPG if I can keep it at 60-65 MPH and not have a heavy foot.

Before mods I was getting 17-18mpg I now get 20-22 mpg if I keep it at 70 or below. I don't really have any city driving. My best so far is 22.8 mpg. I was stuck at 65 mph in traffic. Silly overhead reads 35 to 37 mpg and freaks people out when they get in the truck. I usually tell them the truth except for one day when a enviro freak started in on me at wal-mart about driving a big gas hog. And yes she said gas hog. I informed her that I burn soybean oil produced by american farmers and showed her the overhead. It was just a little fib but it shut her up.

First off...you want to compare mileage ONLY with other non dualie, automatics! (4x4's if that's what you have).
Second... You don't list if 4.10 or 3.55 rear end gears.... makes a difference.
Third.... Number of auto trannys getting 20+ mph is very, very few!
That said... Your mileage seems low. Most automatics average 15-17 mpg around town.

Aye der Alan!

Straight 1 and 0 blend will give you that kind of mileage in the city without a doubt...
Do you know what kind of fuel you're run'n?
I'm at a whopping 15 right now... can't wait for warmer weather and straight number 2.

Hey neibour
Your milage seems a little low but not much.
My 98 24v auto would get 500-550km per 100l fill consistantly with the twins or stock. and my 98 12v auto stockish gets 550-600kms per 100l fill
I dont know if its just me but I swear that I have had a FF that made a difference? Go figure since I have always got them from Cummins but.,... I dont know it getting late must sleep now
