Manual 5 spd hard to shift
Manual 5 spd hard to shift
I installed a heavy duty centerforce clutch which worked fine for a while then it got hard to shift with the engine running from neutral, especially to low or reverse. Dodge advised me to replace the master clutch and slave cylinder as the old one probably goy air in it when they replaced the clutch. It worked for a while and did the same thing . Replaced it again but it is not helping now. Any ideas?
i just riped the splines out of my southbend and for the last week or so before it happened i had a hard to shift problem but dont no if the clutch disc and my shifting went hand in hand or no will be able to tell you more when i get my truck back in a day or to
It shifts fine if the engine is not running and if I start the truck with it in gear I can keep shifting more or less like double clutching. If I stop and let the clutch out sometimes I have to shut off the engine to get it into gear again. Thanks
It's quite common for a failed pilot bearing to cause this problem. Maybe they didn't bother to change it when the clutch was done, and it's starting to seize, or it's come apart and not keeping the input shaft true to the flywheel.
Thanks Torquefan. That makes sense. I was hoping for an easier answser but I don't think there is anything short of removing the tranny. I don't remember whether the throwout was replaced or not but I'm thinking not.
The clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder come as a precharged unit and the whole unit has been changed twice as per advice from the Dodge service in Boise. Supposably had air in the line. Now I find that it is designed to have a self bleeding system to be pumped and bleeds air out back through the master cylinder. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have same problem
I have same problem. I changed my clutch to the SB Con O 13inch,
My original pilot bushing was GONE, ie no where to be found. Which kept my input shaft from running true, which then may have ruined the input shaft bearings in side the trans. So we may have to take trans out again and change shaft and bearings. or I can try a new slave/master combo from dealership. The old weak hydraulic system may not have enough pressure to disengage and stop the input from spinning, because if I drive and push in clutch and hold it for 10 -15 seconds then shift it is easier, not perfect, but better. Both solutions seem like they could solve the problem, both were suggested by knowledgeable/experienced technicians at seperate shops. However there is the chance that it is the transmisson itself and it was rebuilt improperly. I'm going to buy new slave/master, (easier to change and may just be worn out, it is original as far as I know. 227,000miles.
