Lynchburg/Roanoke VA dealer for VP44 warranty repairs

I noticed I was getting the dead pedal on my truck and ran the codes and got the 216 & 1693 codes.. Which at 60k miles disappointed, but not surprised..

After reading posts on here about having trouble getting some dealers to cover this under warranty even when they admit it should be- based on 5/100k cummins powertrain.. I dont want to risk paying out of pocket and then filing with Chrysler for reimbursement with their financial condition..

Anyone used a local Roanoke or Lynchburg Dealer and got it covered - less the $200 diagnostic fee/deductible??

thanks

Brian

Dont tell me that.. :-(

based on what I am reading on this forum... Truck was in service May 2002 - 3yr/36k month would take me to May 2005 - Then the 5yr/100k begins AFTER the 3/36 ends (as per owners manual)- so that would take me to 2010 under the 5yr/100k warranty.. I only have 60k on the truck..

this is one of the many posts I got that information from

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...=warranty+2002

Am i reading something wrong??

Ok.. after reading a ton more posts on here (but most were from 2007 and earlier) I am utterly confused..

From the 2007/2006 posts a lot of ppl say the cummins 5/100k warranty starts at the end of the 3/36k, which extends it to 8 yrs/136k - from inservice date..

BUT I cant find any posts from 2009ish that talk about ppl getting the VP44 covered under the 5/100k warranty. did something change or am i missing something??

thanks

the warranty that you are referring to is debatable, but there have been cases where it was honored.
if you can handle the aggravations of getting the dealer to do it, then go for it... more than likely they will insist your 5year/100,0000 mile warranty starts when the truck was put in service

I thought that the 2002 models had a 7 year/ 70,000 warrenty. Just go by a dodge dealer and have them run the VIN they will tell you how much warrenty is left. Read your warrenty book if you have one, it will explain coverages.

I wish it was as easy as reading the warranty book or having the dealer run the VIN (which I am going to do on Monday). I have the infamous 5/100k powertrain warranty which "begins when the 3/36 ends" statement that the dealer/DC says starts at in-service (and what they computer shows from reading posts here), but can easily be read to say the 5 yrs starts 3 yrs after the in-service date (ie 8 yr/136k warranty)..

If the warranty runs for 8 yrs im covered, but 5 yrs im not..

I am trying to figure out my options - I havent found any posts on here saying a 2002 truck was covered/reimbursed by DC for VP44 problems recently. Which makes me wonder has the DC policy (and recent bankruptcy) made them stop covering 2002 trucks..

Fact is all warranties start from the original in service date. 3/36 is basic, 5/100 takes over from the 3/36 but the start date is still the same. There never was a 8 year 136,000 mile warranty. Just because some one can interpet the wording differently does not make it right. When the truck was purchased there is never a mention of any such 8/136 warranty. Just because you can read it and make it sound different does not make it factual.

They have made exceptions not to the so called 8/136 but to the known failures of the vp44 and lift pump issues.

Are you the original owner? what is your in service date?

I am editing my post.

I see you are may. Ask the dealer to run the full vin including service contracts. some 2002 models had the 7/100 service contract depending on the date sold or in service. My june 28,2002 in service did have the 7/100 mile contract. Commonly a serice contract is an additional warranty the customer pays for. DC included that service contract as a selling perk to certain sales dates. Have the dealer run the full vin report.

I have an 02. My VP went out. I took it to the dealer and had it replaced. Then I contacted Chrysler and sent them all of my docs with the pages from their own manual and was sent back a check for the amount less the 100 deductible. The dealer WILL not honor the stated warranty. You are covered for 8/136 no matter what some on here believe. I personally had this done so I know it works.

Update:

The dealer has in their computer I have the 7/100 warranty (which is not what my red warranty book listed), but im not complaining.. They diagnosed the truck yesterday and the lift pump and VP44 are out..

The VP44 is being replaced under warranty, but i have to pay $510 for a new in-tank lift pump and a $100 deductible..

I asked if they would install the FASS DDRP instead of the intank LP and I pay the installation cost. They said it would void the new VP warranty (12 mths/100k)....

I can live with that..
