A couple of questions before I put my link on this weekend. The instructions seem to indicate that the three metal shims are not installed from the get go, just hold on to them to adjust later. Correct? When the joint loosens up later and I have to shim it, how much do you add? The original setup required the joint to be off, do you have to pull it again or can you measure something in place?

When I installed mine all the parts went in place. So when you say shims do you mean the washers? Its been awhile but all 3 washers and the spring go in place there were no extra parts. The only way it will loosen is if the spring should soften then to adjust you just tighten the cap in more. I can look for the instructions I think the pic shows it in the order it go's in..

You don't remove the ball to add shims, just remove the cotter pin and unscrew the plug. Good luck

Just talked with L&L. They said not to install the three shim washers. If the joint ever loosens up to insall one washer and check for play. Repeat if needed to remove play.
