LUK clutch

Is this a good replacement option for a stock 1999 with no power mods?

I had one in my 04, I think it was rated for 550 hp and 1100 tq. Two problums it couldn't hold the power that it was rated for but the biggest thing is, it was so grabby it killed a lot of u-joints. Not tow friendly at all.

NO! Mine lasted 30k miles & the flywheel was chewed up & the spring pack popped. It was too grabby, like shake you out the seat grabby. If you want to tow & street drive the truck, get a Southbend con ofe, been proven reliable & has held 500hp+. If you want to tow, street & make 550hp, get a Southbend con fe...this clutch is slightly grabby. If you want to do all the above & sled pull in the summer, get a Southbend Dual Disc with as much pedal pressure as you can stand.

The OE Luk replacment clutch held in the '99 for about 50K with the mods. Then is started to slip under low RPM pulls in 4 & 5 gear. I did get a BFS clutch that shook the daylights out of the truck. The less the load the worse the shake, ei, first gear engage at a slight roll and the bed would bounce two inches up/down. Got it warrentied out and was fine for 50K.

I have the 13" Con FE in it now. While it holds it doesn't shift well. My hyd are giving over twice the stock travel. Actually I can push the fork into the pressure plate if I push far enough on the pedal. It seems the disc just isn't floating away from the fly wheel enough. So I shift with my right foot. Maybe there is an issue with a bur on the input shaft, but I've had the trans out too many times to pull it when it works for now.

The '97 has the Con ofe, an dwe've had no issues except it is a touch grabby in reverse. The price is about twice what I paid for oem replacement. But, if it hold for 100K it's worth not having to pull the trans again.

I put a Pro Gold in back in Aug of 06, its only got 15k on it but they certainly haven't been easy miles. I haven't noticed that its graby at all I've also got 10 pulls on it. I'm not gonna complain about it for only paying $300. The heaviest load I've pulled was 15k and it held that just fine.

Thanks for the responses. I was wondering about the quality of LuK and Sachs, as SBC also sells these clutches. I don't want to purchase more clutch than I need, and I want to retain stock pedal pressure and driveability.

Oh, we thought that you were asking about the 13" Cerametallic Pro. If you have no interest in modding the truck, just get a stock clutch which is a Luk clutch. Stay away from the 13" cerametallic facings. Olee Poole is having a group buy on SBC clutches, a con O is gonna be like your stocker. The ofe is also said to be smooth, it would be my choice.
