low oil pressure on startup
low oil pressure on startup
My edge shows 0 oil pressure for about 3-4 seconds on startup. It never used to do that, and now im trying to figure out if its my sending unit or if i am having other problems. Oil pressure runs in the 60's while driving and low 20's at rest. Any ideas.
While I am sure it has happened you never really hear of a Cummins dying from a failed oil pump.
I'd go with the sender as they are a common r/r item on this engine.
Mine is a bit slower to pressure up in lower temps, have you changed the filter and oil lately? Did you switch brands of filter?

I haven't changed it that recently. Its only been around 1000 miles on oil change. I did have a dodge dealership change it the last time i did however. I usually do it myself.
Try a search for "oil pressure sending unit". You'll find a couple of threads with others describing how their gauges indicated when the sending unit failed. Might give you peace of mind to change it out.
edge gets its reading from the factory sender, so if they both read low, sounds like a sensor issue,
oil pressure sensor is a common fail point and more than likely the reason.
mine failed in the 3/4 posn, key on engine off showed the same as if it was running, stayed like this for over a yr, then one day it decided to suddenly drop to zero and stay there....got tired of the dash chiming, and spent 80$ for a new sender
