Loud Noise

When I turn off my truck I hear a loud metal on metal sound every time. I have the AC on and off when this happens ( someone told me it was the compressor belt) any ideas

I read one time that the CTD has so much compression that it stops before the accessories can and loudly churps the belt, I've heard it happen in my uncles 2nd gen. Hope this helps!

I dont think so, I gather its a common occurance, it might age the belt faster, but Ive never heard of anything catstrophic. My uncle has never had any problems, it just churps when you turn it off.

Check to see if the the belt tensioner has failed and is out of alignment. Mine was and it made some weird noises. I replaced it and problem solved.

Very common in second gen trucks if you are talking about your 2002. I have never heard that same noise in my first gen, but heard it frequently in my second. No big deal if it is just belt chirp. I replaced my belt and tensioner, and still heard the noise

The exhaust pipe? Our neighbors old truck would hit on the frame on every shut down.

Since the belts aren't metal, I would be looking at the exhaust, or engine mounts.

Mine "chirps" upon shutdown too. Not worried as I've heard at least one other 12v do it.
