So I am looking at buying a used 2000. 2500 with the cummins and 3:55 rear end. It has about 100,000 miles on her. Here are some questions I am researching before I buy.

1. Generally how long do the auto trannys hold up if they are maintaned and not towed with heavily.

2. Is there an aftermarket tranny that is beafier than the stock and if so what do they generally run.

3. What are some mods to do to maximize fuel economy. Dont really care about horsepower.

4. The lift pump was replaced back in 2001. Did dodge correct the pump problem by then or should I expect to eventually replace this some day.

 

1. It could die tomorrow, but generally 200k is possible with maintaince and not floged to death.
2. How much do you care to spend. From 2000 to five thousand and even more if you want to give it to builders.
3. Tire pressure, no extra load, and egg under foot.
4. Is lift pump still mounted on left rear of engine? If not, pump moved into tank per Chrysler upgrade. Still plan on replacing eventually. Moniter fuel pressure.
