Looking at buying a 01 cummins

Hi im new to the forums but i have had a cummins before it was a 05 qc sb auto stock and I bought it from a 1 owner with 115k on it and I had it for about a month and the trans started to slip so i sold it, I never wanted another auto again. Times change and i have found a 01 cummins qc sb auto 4x4 2500. The truck has 189k miles, power everything, BF Goodrich AT tires all around. Extras include rebuilt Goerend transmission, FASS fuel system, Banks exhaust, Smarty Tuner. Is it worth the 12k he's asking? Im in Afghanistan and I will be sending my wife to buy it and she has no idea anything I can ask the guy over the phone or have my wife look at before she buys?

Where is the truck? Have you check Kelly blue book for prices? "kbb.com"
I would guess with the modifications to the truck there would be a chance it's been run a bit hard!

I know it has a lot of mods. added but I think the price is a little high for the age and mileage even with the mods. When you put stuff like that on a vehicle you can NEVER expect to recoop your investment!

I have an 01, 6-speed but only have 47,000 on it. You do remember the 01 is a bit noisier engine than the 05 you used to have!

My .02

I think it is high also. You could buy a new gasser for slightly more & not have to deal with the front end or VP. Every little thing costs $$. I need syncros, have a cracked dash, need heater core, steering box (even though cardone crap is under warranty) & have a few leaks in the drive train. I just did the VP but pump longevity & reliability is a crap shot. Nothing serious by itself but pricey together. Every used Ram that I've looked at has similar (expensive) deferred maintenance. 12k is too much for 189,000 mi. The engine ain't worth that much. I wouldn't expect my wife to be able to discern a good deal so wouldn't expect her to make the decision herself.
