looking at a 99 have some questions

Hey guys im thinking of buying a 99 5and speed new tranny south bend clutch 240 injectors phat shaft 66 turbo air dog 150 and new injection pump. But here the bad it leaks quite a bit of oil from the crank case vent in the front of the motor the owner says its some kind of recall on the housing itself he swears a easy fix it runs and drives great is it somthing to worry about or is it a easy fix thanks.

sounds like excessive blow by.
both of my trucks got a oily film near the end of the hose, i put on a extension hose so it is not near the radiator and it stopped the mess. i heard some say the fan causes a vacuum because the end of hose is in the direct path of the air flow, reason #2 i put a longer hose on it. it sounds logical, didn't hurt and keeps that area clean.

the vent on the front cover is full of wire mess, maybe the mesh is missing?

no recall that i have ever heard of.

If he is telling you how easy it is to fix, tell him you will give him his asking price and some time for him to do the easy fix.

Don't buy a 99 the front end design is horrible- the rotors are inboard of the wheel bearings and are a pia to service- later years offer rear disc brakes as well wich are not available on the 99's

what does he want for it? 4WD bla bla bla.....

i have 2 of them, actually 1 now. sold the 01 yesterday, it most likely had the 53 block, my 99 was re-blocked with a Mexican casted block, got the motor done yesterday, install tomorrow. there are issues with the 99. OD lock up was a big problem too.
