Justin,
Get out there and DRIVE buddy!!! And I thought I was babying mine... I have an 01 with 73K.

Mine - Original VP, but after 4 LPs, I am now using the GDP Walbro 392 and it's lasted 12,000 miles so far without a hiccup.

68k miles with +60k towing heavy.
One lift pump replaced ~32k - watched it die on the gauge.
Carry a spare lift pump under the seat, don't want an in-tank one even if it was free.
With the RV300 injectors and EZ box pushing about 350 hp.

When I was hunting for a truck I ran across a local ad that said "2000 CTD nice truck, high miles". I stopped by the dealership thinking it may have 150k or so. It had 676,000 miles & ran strong., never rebuilt. I had 150k miles towing heavy daily when I finally cracked my 53 block, new engine has 15k hard towing, sled pulling miles & running strong. LOL

I have 83,000 on my 02, bought it with 45,000, had the vp replaced @69,000 under warrenty I might add.(a warrenty I didnt even know I had!) Ever since then I got the vulcan system. I have changed the lift pump twice. Once when the vp died and another that was on the frame after I relocated it. The second one lasted about 10,000 miles! When this one starts to die im going to replace it with a FASS HPFP and be done with lift pumps alltogether. I am reading in this thread how people have replaced the stock carter lift pump like 5 or 6 times, I think after the second I would have just gone FASS, I have already started saving for it because I know those carters are junk. It just makes sense to me in the long run.

Bought my '01 3500 with 12 miles on the clock... 190K today
1 - LP (~70K)
1 - APPS/TPS (~170K)
1 - Water pump (~135K)

99.8% highway/interstate miles. Biggest gripe is the APPS ($400 for such a simple (albeit needed) mechanism is outrageous), seems like I just replaced it and now the 'new' one is acting up, total failure while in heavy rush hour traffic = not fun!

Even as #2 approaches $4/gal again, it sure beats changing spark plugs

'99 w/ 106K

LP & VP replaced before 106K by previous owner. LP had in-tank conversion.

Tell me more about the APPS...when do you know it's bad? how do you fix it?

Seems like the 98.5 - 02 trucks can be pretty stout with minimal operating costs when spread over the duration of mileage/usage...

The APPS (Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor) aka TPS (Throttle Position Sensor), DC calls it one and Cummins calls it the other, I forget which is which.

Replacement takes maybe 10 mins of labor tops.

If you search the forums for APPS, TPS, 0121 (the error code) or the words 'dead pedal' you will find a wealth of experiences, symptoms, and some remedies.

Bought my '01 new and now has 165K on it. On the second lift pump (Carter moved to the rear rail) and original VP-44. Bought the Quadzilla Commander for fuel pressure and tranny temp piece of mind. Sent the first Carter high pressure back because it said only 8psi at idle (or engine off). Second one was the same. Had to double check the part number to make sure it was the higher pressure one. Still produces 4-5psi at WOT so I'm not worried. Also re-plumbed the filter to VP tubes to get rid of banjo fittings.... Awesome truck. Drove an '07 Laramie Quad-Cab Hemi loaner the other day. Not impressed. Fast but sucks the gas and was twitchy on the road. Cruising at 65 showed about 17-18mpg but went down to 11-12 when you punched it. Plus it didn't spew a big black cloud out the back when you floored it off the line....

I replaced the VP on mine at about 220k miles. I am not the original owner, but it looked to be original.

I bought it used (on Ebay) with 124,000 miles, so I'm not sure about previous work, except the transmission appeared to have been rebuilt shortly before I bought it (the tansmission was cleaner than the rest of the drivetrain)
142,000 - starter
148,000 - crank position sensor
original lift pump AFAIK
original VP AFAIK
