lockup slipping

my truck is in my sig, but basically what is happening is while im going between 45-50 MPH it will lock-up, then unlock. it might do this once or 5-6 times... it dosent happen all the time also. i checked fluid (level surface, parking brake on, truck in netural, and it was at the very max of full!

does anyone know of any good repair shops near Placerville Ca?

i live out near Boise Id, but im out home for the holidays....

what could it possibly be, and will it hurt to wait to check anything out till i get back home over the weekend?

any ideas? im worried about being stranded out on the highway while i drive home...

Maybe try a BD APPS Noise Isolator. They go for around 25 bucks and are known for fixing this problem.

Electrical noise, sometimes a bad ground at the battery.

Alternator noise will do it also. I had the issue, did all the fixes, but what finally stopped it was a good cleaning of the alternator insides. It is a noise issue telling the converter to unlock momentarily. Real common on these. most mechanics, even the dealers will not know how to stop it. i know because my son is one and didn't have a clue. Found the answers right here!

also have the TPS checked; notorious for having to hunt in & out of lockup. Had my 95 2wd do the same thing. A new Tps fixed it for me.

oops just noticed I was on the 24v forum.... not sure if the TPS is the same as a 12 valve, but I'd look into it anyways

As it relocks many times it is glazing the converter clutch, so be careful if you choose to drive it.

You could just unplug the alternator for a while then stop and plug it back in to recharge the system... im guessing you could go a couple hours before you needed to recharge the batterys..

I have had pretty good success with stopping mine doing that by just lifting the wires at the alternator up and away from it. Pretty easy to try, may work and costs nothing.

There's an old post somewhere on this website that addresses the issue. Has to do with grounding out one of the wires in the TPS harness. Had the same problem with my 99 - factory couldn't fix it. Finally made the correction myself and it's been fine for many years now

Lockup slipping

I had my "Banks" system tell me the samething this weekend while towing my 5th wheel. No OBD 11 code was shown, only the Bank's monitor. The alert finally went away. Forgive me for being old and dumb, but what does "apps" & "tps" stand for. It might repair my problem as well. (don't mean to steal your thread). Thanks.

APPS = accelerator pedal position sensor.
TPS = Throttle position sensor
Both the same thing telling the ECM where the pedal is with an electric signal.
