Load range C tires on my truck ...OK?
Load range C tires on my truck ...OK?
I'm due for some new tires. A friend of mine just gave me a brand new set of Bridgestone Duelers 285/75/16 Load range C.
Is it a bad move to put these on my truck. I usually don't carry much weight at all, but on occasion, pull a fertilizer spreader with 3-5 tons.
I've always run BFG AT's in the past, 295's and currently 315's
Thanks!!

Look at the max weight for each tire and decide for yourself. I personally have load range D tires and that is the lowest I want to go. E tires are usually inflated to 80 psi, D tires to between 50-65 depending on size. I think C tires would have a pretty good bulge and ride hot for the most part, but then again, I'm an amateur....
Sheriffav8tr and I agree on this. I went with "D" range tires of good quality for my latest set and am happy with them and they are rated for much more weight than I carry or pull. Since I went up one size they weren't available as an "E" so this was what I faced. The tire dealer explained the load rating and it works out. On a set of "C" range tires you may be close to maxed up front because of the weight of the engine.

Liability is a big issue. Thats why most all reputable tire dealers wont install anything but an E rated tire. Going with a D or C could be a bad mistake if ever in an accident. Myself I will stick with the E rated tires. These trucks have a lot of nose weight.
