Limited Slip or is something else wrong?
Limited Slip or is something else wrong?
Is it normal to be able to feel the limited slip in the rear end grabbing when backing up & going forward with wheels turned? Lately it seems that I can feel it a lot more than it used to. I changed oil in the rear end about 15,000 miles ago & used Amsoil 75W-110. Just last night I tried adding another bottle of the Mopar Limited Slip in it, but it didn't seem to make much difference.
It's not making any kind of noise, but it just feels like a grinding sensation when you back up slowly with the wheels turned slightly. Mostly when backing up on concrete. Don't get the problem at all when going forward or backing up straight........
Thanks for help or suggestions.

It could be the clutches in your limited slip are gummed up. THis generally happens more often on higher mileage vehicles or vehicles that have been ran with the same gear oil way past the scheduled interval. It happened to me on my former 00, but I could actually feel it chattering going around a corner. I pulled the whole assembly and set it on my bench and liberally flushed it with brake cleaner. I think I used close to 2 cans on it, then blew everything out with compressed air. It took care of all my chattering problems and I put about 30k miles on the truck after that.

I'd pull the cover and visually inspect it.
Too much additive isn't going to fix a mechanical issue...
If your gear oil hasn't been contaminated by water or cooked there really isn't a change interval. It's a closed system with no combustion element, so synthetics should last a long time...

If you're concerned then dont wait for something big to happen. Just pull the cover off and see how everything looks. If you find lots of metal shavings or and chunks of stuff then thats not good. Also, I though Amsoil didnt need friction modifier.
