TPS location

I am trying to find the TPS on my 2000 Dodge - where might I find it? New IP, new OEM lift pump (putting out 13 psi at idle) so the TPS is the last thing I believe that could be wrong. Gives me the dead pedal syndrome. No death codes present and I have already tried to 're-learn' the existing TPS. I know that the one guy on here sells them for about $160. Any other ideas or suggestions? Many thanks in advance.

Also, figure 26 here:

Can't remember where these pics came from.

That item is not it that spot for a 2000. Definately don't recognize it there.

Thanks, John.

That's all the info I had, so I thought I would throw it out, just in case.

Your APPS (TPS) will be where Barney posted pictures, however it might look different under the Black Cover.

That is the only picture I have currently, however under the Black Cover (underneath and infront of the Intake Horn) is where the APPS is Located. Remove the 2 plastic screws and then the cover and you will see your APPS. If you want you could try to either reset its Parameters. Or you can adjust it to its proper Voltage reading if you feel it is giving you troubles. I would do both of those before I replace it.

Alternate Location?

OK, like a good forum member, I did a search to find a similar topic. recently while towing a light load (sons '99 Cavalier on a tow dolly - it died on him) I noticed some surging under moderate throttle. I pulled codes (3X KO/KO) and got the regularly expected ones (fuel level sending voltage error from stupid aux tank and overboost from TM-24) as well as a code for VSS and TPS errors. I wrote them down and put the paper.......somewhere.

Anyway, I could not pull these codes using my Autel MS509 code scanner/reader, nor with my older Innova/Equus code reader. I checked both the ECU and BS computers. I used the scanner to check the TPS signal to both computers, and it seemed to be normal through the full range of the pedal. I wanted to check the connections anyway to be sure, but I cannot seem to find the TPS/APPS! I removed the bellcrank cover, and it's not there. I have the heavy throttle cable coming from the accelerator pedal, and then there is a lighter cable leading to a round (feeling) unit under the driver's side battery. After scratching my head some, I had convinced myself that this must be the cruise control module - but after reading that some TPS/APPS could be there, I'm not sure.

Could the TPS/APPS for a 2001 H.O. be there, or am I just not seeing something? On the above images, I see a smaller cable inboard of the heavier throttle cable.

Oh, the MIL light was not on, just a hesitation that even my wife noticed right off the bat as I was trying to accelerate onto a highway (and up a hill) from a side road. I will be replacing the fuel filter tomorrow, and may have to run the scanner and save the trace for the VSS to see if it is dropping out. I have never lost cruise control though.

ETA - found where I left the paper with the codes on it. It was in my wife's truck, I was investigating the loss of her mode door functionality. Always something, isn't it?
Codes present (but no MIL): P0122, P0500, P0463

Bump To Top

Still no idea guys? I can post a picture to show y'all that there is no TPS/APPS at the accelerator bellcrank.
I have new fuel filter, but with the schedule I am working now it is dark almost as soon as I get home and eat dinner. I may have to convince the wife that I should get the filter changed and then come in and eat....

DryCreek, if my truck wasn't in the shop, I would go take a picture for you right now. On my truck the TPS is pretty much directly above the VP44 under a black plastic cover. The cable from the throttle pedal goes to the top of it. That might be your easiest option, find where your cable goes through the firewall and trace it to where it ends. It ends where it connects to the APPS/TPS.

John, have you pulled any codes or tried running your truck with the cruise control on and seeing if it still surges. Mine would not surge during cruise, a definite APPS issue.

I just hate to think you are throwing parts at it without making sure the APPS is your problem. There is plenty of info on here about how to test an APPS. A search will produce them...

OK, here's a picture

OK, I have decided to try to add a picture, or at least a link to what I see once I take the black cover off of the injection pump. Is the TPS/APPS behind where the bellcrank enters the pump? Or, is the bellcrank part of the TPS/APPS, and I was looking for something black and plastic with wires coming from it? I think/thought that the bellcrank actually gave a physical input to the injector pump to change stroke length, but maybe it is all electronic (drive by wire)?

Link, in case picture does not fill in.

if you take those 6 10mm bolts out holding the bell crank to the mount the apps is on the backside of it you cant really see until you unbolt the bell crank. It is (the apps/tps) held on with 2 torx #20 screws.

The bell crank has a tab that fits in a slot on the apps/tps, as you push down on the accelerator pedal it turns that tab which in turn turns within the apps/tps. You are correct it is drive by wire there is no mechanical device between bell crank and vp just the electronic apps/tps

The APPS is held on by two torx screws. That wire bundle seen in the above pic goes under the housing to the APPS rheostat on the back side of the center of that housing......
